FAQs
How much do counselling sessions cost?
Each counselling session costs £70 for individuals and £85 for couples. I offer a free 20 minute initial phone call to help you decide if I am the right counsellor for you.
How long and how often are the sessions?
Sessions last for 50 minutes for individuals and 60 minutes for couples and they usually happen once a week.
Do you work with couples?
I work with childless couples and childless individuals and I also offer general counselling to all aged 18+.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people only want a few sessions and others want to work over a longer period. You are totally free to stop at any point, although I do recommend that we have a planned final session.
Is what I say in the counselling sessions confidential?
What you tell me in the sessions is absolutely confidential. The only exception to this would be if I felt that you or someone else was at risk of being harmed in some way or wasn't safe. I have a clinical supervisor who works with me to ensure my work is ethical and effective, although I do not disclose any identifying details to her about the clients I am working with.
What happens in my first session?
In the first session, we’ll go through my counselling contract. I might ask you about what you feel you need support with, and you will have a chance to experience how I work and whether or not it feels right for you. We might talk about any information you have shared with me about your situation, we might check in with any feelings that are arising and you will have the opportunity to let me know how the counselling is feeling for you. I also ask some general questions about your wellbeing and safety.
What happens if I have to cancel my counselling session?
I ask for 72 hours’ notice of cancellation, otherwise the full fee will be required.
When and how do I pay you?
Payment is due before the time of the session and you can pay by cash or bank transfer.
What if I can't think of anything to say?
If you come to any session and are not sure what to say, we can check in with how you are feeling in the moment. This often helps to get the session going. I won’t leave you floundering.
What happens if I get really upset during the session?
It's fine to cry in a counselling session and tears can be an important part of the process. I won't ask you to suppress your tears and you can take all the time you need to express the way you are feeling.
What happens if I change my mind about coming to counselling?
The choice as to whether we carry on working together will always be yours. There will be opportunities to review our work along the way.
I would always ask that you let me know when you would like us to finish working together, and that if possible we have an ending session. Endings are an important part of counselling work.
Where do you work?
I either work online or on the ‘phone or at a venue in central Lewes.
I don't live near you, but I'd still like to work with you. Are there any alternatives?
Yes, I can offer counselling via secure online video calling and by ‘phone.
